The Social Health Authority (SHA) in Kenya is set to officially launch on October 1, 2024, marking a significant transition from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF). As of late September 2024, approximately 1.2 million individuals have registered under the new SHA scheme.

STEPS FOR REGISTRATION

To register for the Social Health Authority (SHA) in Kenya, follow these steps:

Online Registration

  1. Visit the SHA Website: Go to SHA.go.ke.
  2. Click the “Register Individual” or “Register employers ”Button on the homepage.
  3. Fill Out the Registration Form: Enter your personal details, including:
    • National ID Number
    • Phone Number (for OTP verification)
  4. Click “Proceed”: Submit your information and move to the next step.
  5. Select ID Type: Choose “Kenyan Citizen” as your ID type.
  6. Enter Your National ID Number: Input your ID number accurately.
  7. Enter Your Phone Number: Provide your phone number again for verification.
  8. Receive OTP: You will receive a One-Time Password (OTP) via SMS; enter it to verify your phone number.
  9. Create a 4-Digit PIN: Set a secure PIN for your account.
  10. Complete Registration: Click the “Complete Registration” button to finalize your enrollment.

USSD Registration

  1. Dial USSD Code: Use *147# on your mobile phone.
  2. Follow Prompts: Accept terms and conditions, then enter your Kenyan ID number and first name for verification.
  3. Provide Additional Details: Complete the registration by following the prompts.

Assisted Registration

  1. Visit a Huduma Centre or Agent: Go to your nearest Huduma Centre with required documents.
  2. Provide Personal Information: A SHA agent will assist you in filling out necessary details and capturing biometrics.
  3. Review and Submit Application: Ensure all information is correct before submission.

By following these steps, you can successfully register for the SHA and gain access to its healthcare services starting from October 1, 2024.
